Living Well Studio has impacted not only my physical health, but also my journey with God. The whole practice is seeped with meditation on and remembrance of God's goodness, blessings, and love. I always leave feeling stronger and more flexible physically, but more importantly, more at peace and closer to my Lord and Savior.
In early 2011, I was diagnosed with a movement disorder. This affects me with continual pulling of my head, spasms, and chronic neck and upper back pain. I started attending Living Well Studio, and I am thankful to attend a wellness class that is Christ-centered and focused. The worship thru music encourages my spirit and God reminds me to find Jesus and search for thanks thru this suffering. The gentle stretches and challenging poses help my body and are just what I need physically. And my enthusiasm for the class has now encouraged my sister to attend with me!
I wanted to throw in my 2 cents about Living Well Studio. There aren't many nonjudgmental places to go these days in the "exercise" world. Whether it's a gym, a track or a hiking trail---it's often about competition. Who's the fastest, who has the most endurance, who can bench press the most weight---NOT so at LWS. Ginger has been able to wrap the concept of exercise and Christian worship into a delightful package. No judgment here! Through guided meditations and Christ honoring music, Ginger walks us through exercises which challenge and strengthen not only our bodies, but calm and direct our attention to what is truly important----Christ within us. The end result is a refreshed body and a renewed delight in our Savior.
I have enjoyed Ginger's class for several reasons. One reason is that it is a good physical workout. It is a great chance to really stretch my muscles as well as strengthen them for an extended period of time. I feel relaxed and energized when I leave the class. Another reason is that it is a opportunity to refresh spiritually after a day's worth of activity. The worshipful music, the Scripture verses that are read, as well as the prayertime in the beginning all serve to refocus my mind on the Lord and his purpose for my being. The low candlelight and Ginger's soothing voice and spirit greatly contribute to the relaxed but God-focused atmosphere of each session.
It is a time to focus and reflect. One day I came to a session and was fraught with worry and fear for my children and some issues that they were facing. As I brought myself to the LORD and spent time listening to what He was saying to me, I could hear Him telling me to trust Him and not worry. This was a very encouraging time for me and helped to carry me through a difficult time. I am thankful for this class and wish to continue this class and hopefully be able to attend a Saturday class when available.
In the middle of a recent class, I was surprised to find myself kneeling and and overcome with tears in worship of our excellent God. Having moved through poses and guided breathing, we had exhaled air while repenting of sins of fear, judgement, or hate of self or others. We took in air with words of scripture; saturating minds with truth, love and light from God’s word. A bit later, led into this “child’s pose” or kneeling on my mat with forehead down and arms outstretched, I listened to words of the song, “Here I am to worship, Here I am to bow down, Here I am to say that You are my God.” And, so, I was! The combined effect of body, mind and spirit produced a deep experience of true and right worship. At Livng Well, we place our selves before God and into His word in worship and movement. The connected experience is amazing!
I really enjoy LW because it provides not only a physical workout, but a spiritual one as well. The poses are demonstrated well and provide a workout through stretches and strength building. Many of the poses involve movements that allow one to meditate on God and Scripture. Many of the poses involve raised arms and upward gazes, which enable concentration; whether it is on the message the instructor gave in the beginning of the session, or one’s own scripture passage or message. Difficult or long poses are often followed by resting poses, allowing the body as well as mind to rejuvenate with prayers and praise to God. LW is a fun, relaxing spiritual experience, and one which I enjoy very much.
