Our lives are made up of moments. It is said that life isn’t measured in the
number of breaths we take, but in the moments that take our breath away. In this
very moment, and in every moment to come, we model our lives after Jesus as our Lord.
Consider a shadow. It does exactly everything its object does. When the
object moves, the shadow moves. When the object stills, the shadow stills. Shadow
life is hinged on the object. When we hinge our lives on Jesus Christ and when we
become His shadow, blessings flow.
This hinging, this belonging to Jesus Christ is our birthright. Once we accept
Jesus into our heart, we become part of His family, part of a royal heritage. We are
spliced into His family line and united with the body of Christ. In this family we
draw on the life-giving energy of Jesus Christ and we become cultivated, nurtured,
and loved. Christ’s roots become our roots; His foundation, our foundation. Our
trust in Christ grows resilient, spirited, and secured in the certainty that we belong
to Him. In these moments, we overflow with gratitude, and miracles are born. And
it takes our breath away.
And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to
follow him. Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him.
Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will
overflow with thankfulness. Colossians 2:6-7 (NLT)
1. Consider some wonderful moments in your life. Who was involved? How did
you feel? Do you consider these moments as miracles?
2. Is your life hinged to Christ? How so?
3. How can you cultivate thankfulness in your life? Why does this matter?
